Album of the Week

I'd like to thank Seany J for being the inspiration for this week. He's becoming so hood right before my eyes, I'm beyond proud. Jaha!

Nas - It Was Written
Released July 2, 1996

1. Album Intro
2. The Message
3. Street Dreams
4. I Gave You Power
5. Watch Dem Niggas
6. Take It In Blood
7. Nas Is Coming
8. Affirmative Action
9. The Set Up
10. Black Girl Lost
11. Suspect
12. Shootouts
13. Live Nigga Rap
14. If I Ruled The World

Ok, so, here's my 2 cents (isn't that the point of this "blogging" ish anyways? lol). This album is sick. Real cool beats, Nas attacks it with swag and power, letting it be known that this guy really is amazing. Unfortunately, I think not many people give this album much credit. In my world, it's a classic. It Was Written got a lot of slack back in the day for "not being as good" as Illmatic 2 years prior. I fully have to disagree. This album is dope, if you love hip hop, you probably own this album and if you don't, then you should be ashamed of yourself.

That is all. It's time for a beach run with the boy ;)

Album of the Week

I'm a day late because after my Tuesday night's events, I had a change of heart as to what my album for this week would be.

Whenever I'm going through some overdramatic, unnecessary, boy turmoil, this is the album I turn to. Super sexy, ultra-feminine. I've never been much of a "girly-girl" but this album is what I think the epitome of a woman is/should be.

Janet Jackson - The Velvet Rope
Released October 7, 1997

1. Interlude - Twisted Elegance
2. Velvet Rope
3. You
4. Got 'Til It's Gone ft. Joni Mitchell and Q-Tip
5. Interlude - Speaker Phone
6. My Need
7. Interlude - Fasten Your Seatbelts
8. Go Deep
9. Free Xone
10. Interlude - Memory
11. Together Again
12. Interlude - Online
13. Empty
14. Interlude - Full
15. What About
16. Every Time
17. Tonight's The Night
18. I Get Lonely
19. Rope Burn
20. Anything
21. Interlude - Sad
22. Special

I had this album on tape and CD, listened to it nonstop for MANY months... There's songs about love, loss, abuse, sadness, fun, and sexuality; it's got a sense of "empowerment" vibe if you will. Not to mention, yet again, that it is super sexy. Not gonna lie but Velvet Rope and Rope Burn are on the top of my Sexy Time list.

On a plus-side note. To all my ladies out there: If a guy ever does you wrong; plays you, lies, stands you up, cheats, makes plans twice in one week then has you wait over an hour for him cause he can't get his shit together (lol), listen to this album. Then go do someone hot to get over him. Then go out and find someone more than worth your time. Then listen to the album again.

Toodles.

Seriously

After Prince at the Super Bowl.. Purple Rain, in the rain. I promised I would never cry due to another person again....

Fuck bitches, get money.

Stolen from Melody Darlene

"A Simple Reminder To Myself:

I can offer my friends the BEST advice. When I get to preaching... I PREEEEACH! I'm only 23 years old, but I have a lot of wise words of wisdom to offer. But all this time, while I've been helping other people out with their situations, I got lost in the matrix and forgot about my own damn self. So here it is... some words of wisdom to MYSELF... to REMIND myself... direct from Ms. Lauryn Hill...

Babygirl... Respect is just a Minimum...

aint that the truth! A minimum -- a FUCKING MINIMUM!! Phew! Glad I had my own back on that one... caught myself slippin, but I got my head on right again. LET'S GO!"

Just to make this clear, I didn't not write this on my own. Clearly it's a general idea quoted from one of the greats, Lauryn Hill. I'm reposting cause I've kinda been on the same epiphany this past week and Mels is an old friend thus, I promote. Check out her blog at Married2TheGame.com

Cheers.

Album of the Week

First off... Let me just say how hot Jadakiss is right now. Maybe cause I'm already a fan and maybe because I'm super critical of everyone but I really like this album. Don't love it yet, maybe I will soon but, I like it a lot and I hope you all do too.

Jadakiss - The Last Kiss
Released April 7, 2009

2. Can't Stop Me
3. Who's Real

6. One More Step
7. Stress Ya
8. What If
9. Things I've Been Through
10. I Tried
11. Rockin' With The Best
12. Smoking Gun
13. Cartel Gathering
14. Come And Get Me
15. By My Side
16. Letter To B.I.G.
17. Something Else Remix
18. Death Wish

But here's my real choice for today...
I've been pretty hip on the Drake for quite a while now. I was "introduced" to this guy a while back through a friend of mine, fuXor, from High School (he used to sell mixtapes out his backpack during track practice, this guy was so hood in the middle of the SFV, lol). Anyways, he now runs this pretty big urban site right now that's doing superbly well (go check it out TheRundown.tv).

Anyways, the real reason I've decided on THIS mixtape was because I've been telling my lil bro, that I don't see as often as I'd like to, about Drake for a while now. But for some reason, on Easter Sunday, he comes over and wakes me and the first thing he says to me is, "Bridge? Why you didn't tell me crippled little Jimmy was this Drake you been telling me about?? And why is this nigga actually good?!". Bless my brother's little internetless heart. I love him so much. So now he realizes why I was so mad a few weeks ago when he deleted 2 years worth of my mixtape findings. However he did say that this was his favorite of Drake and in my world, whatever my bro says goes so, here you go...

Passion

I spent a lot of my time last week asking hundreds of people one question: "What is your Passion in life?" Sadly, only 4 or 5 people answered the way I wanted them to.

To me, 'Passion' means not only something you love and admire but, something you live, breathe, and do. A lot of people answered with bogusness "skating" "reading" "writing", which could all actually be valid if they were thins you were actually living by. These people were not.

More than 1 person answered my question with the same response, "Music is my passion because it's a part of me". In my mind, music is not a passion. It's too general of a spectrum. Maybe the Guitar or DJing or Instrument Manufacturing is your passion but I really don't think "music" is a passion.

To be quite honest, as much as I would like it to be, nothing about music is my passion. There are things I'm good at and musical ventures I'd like to conquer but, if it was a passion of mine, I'd be rockin my flute in every major venue in the nation right now and every one of my friends that are actually good would have deals right now.

The point I'm trying to get at is this: What really is your passion? What is your calling in life? What were you meant to do and are you doing that now?

As for me, I know what my passion is. I know it's what I was put on this Earth for. No, I'm not fully enveloped in it yet but, I'm a work in progress. and I hope you all are too.

Cheers.

I'm actually in a grand mood

I have to vent for a couple seconds...

Why does it seem that too many people can't get their shit together?? Granted, I'm barely working and don't have too many obligations But that's something I chose for reasons that only I need to know and I'm happy with my decisions.

Also. Can't people be clear on the things they want or don't want? I'm over games and ish.

Go after want you want and make known what you don't. Life is for the living and fakin it aint real life.

That is all. Thanks for listening :)

Album of the Week

For most of my teen years, I had this uber close friend. He was my other half for like 7 years-ish. I've mentioned him before and my hopes is to never have to mention him again. You can go support his music if you want (http://www.myspace.com/midnightview). I still will, from a very far distance for reasons unknown to me.

Anyways, we "just so happened" to have bought the same Christmas gift one year, '02 I think... A Beatles poster.

I cut my hand on it today and that's partly where my album of the week came from.

The Beatles - Abbey Road
Originally released September 26, 1969

1. Come Together
2. Something
3. Maxwell's Silver Hammer
4. Oh! Darling
5. Octopus' Garden
6. I Want You (She's So Heavy)
7. Here Comes the Sun
8. Because
9. You Never Give Me Your Money
10. Sun King
11. Mean Mr. Mustard
12. Polythene Pam
13. She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
14. Golden Slumbers
15. Carry That Weight
16. End
17. Her Majesty

I've waken up to this LP for like 6 days straight now. Something about that Sun King makes me feel good about life. The Beatles don't really need any explanation nor do I have any rave that I think would live up to their status and talent. I will say this, had I been around during "their reign", I probably would not have been a fan. I would've loved their music but not been a fan. Like Beyonce. Hate her, but the bitch can sing and apparently act as well.

But now, it's 2009. If you are a fan of music, you're a fan of The Beatles in someway. So many samples and covers and careers have been made off these 4 guys that just did what they loved in a time where it was almost OK to be free in love. I think at least 3 of the songs that I've written in the past few months are somehow inspired by The Beatles.

If you're not into them and are open to giving them a shot, go get The White Album. It'll change your life. For better or best. Or at least just open your mind to something you may not have experienced.
